Detox

It's that time of year... another season change. Whenever this happens I feel compelled to purge sugar from my system and to get back to eating only whole foods. I am trying for the next 5 weeks to eat only whole grains and vegetables, adding ginger and cayenne to flavour dishes and to stimulate circulation. I am starting each day with a cup of warm water with fresh lemon squeezed into it. This helps to flush the digestive system, stimulate the liver and kidneys and alkalinize the whole body. I am increasing my water intake and saying no to all forms of caffeine (which I do regularly).
Things I will avoid:  sugar, fried foods, dairy, anything in a box, bag or bottle! Remember to be good to yourself when you detox, it's a time of restoration and you need to sleep a lot and de-stress. Yoga and walking will be my exercise of choice (maybe a few exercise classes at the Y). Wish me luck and give it a try. You will be surprised at how great you feel!

  1. You're so inspiring Hayley! I love your blog, and have recently begun making it part of my daily reading :) ... good luck with the detox! I can relate to how great it feels, and tend to "seasonally" do the very same. I actually, for much of the winter, eliminated ALL BOOZE & coffee (my love of wine included) ... and am finding it really challenging to reintroduce it into my system. If I have, even so much as a glass of wine in the evening, I land myself with a monstrous headache in the morning. Sadly, I think my bodies trying to tell me something... If you come up with inspiring recipes during your cleanse, I'm sure the rest of us would love it if you shared :) ...xox
